While common throughout much of southern Ontario, Red Oak occurs naturally only in a couple of areas in Huron and Perth Counties, one being along the lower Maitland River Valley corridor. As with all other oaks, Red Oak produce acorns. Wood from Red Oak is commercially important and used for a variety of products such as flooring and furniture.

Address: along the Mill Road Hiking Trail on the north side of the Maitland River and west of the Menesetung Bridge, Goderich.

Note: This tree is affectionately known as the Tiger Dunlop Oak. An interesting plaque erected beside the tree by the Maitland Trail Association relates historical happenings in the area to the life of the tree.
